U.S. Rep. Gary Peters Statement on the 5th Anniversary of Kosova’s Independence
“This week, I join Albanians and Kosovars in Michigan and around the globe to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Kosova. Throughout a challenged history, the Kosovar people have persevered and today their democratically elected government endures. Kosova’s independence is now recognized by 98 members of the United Nations and I am confident that number will continue to grow.
I was fortunate to visit Albania and Kosova, in which I saw many homes with not just an Albanian flag – but an American flag flying right by its side. I am proud to be a friend of the Kosovar people and as an active leader of the Albanian Congressional Caucus in Washington, D.C. I continue to support the unbreakable bond between the United States and Albania and work to strengthen the sovereignty of the Republic of Kosova.
Let us celebrate the continued independence and growth of the Republic of Kosova and its determination to engage in the democratic process.”
